Skunks aren’t able to spray with any aim until they are around 3-4 months old.

We never said cleaning skunks was easy, you have to be at the ready and know when to slowly back away.
One of the first warning signs skunks will always give when they feel threatened, is a stomp and scoot… but then you get the lovely view of the rear end. This is without a doubt their double warning to get away. Luckily for us, most of the skunks we clean daily are too young to truly spray, so they just practice their warning skills.
Skunks aren’t able to spray with any aim until they are around 3-4 months old. However, this doesn’t mean we don’t smell them. Sometimes when our skunks get too rowdy and play with their siblings, they will let out a little “spray toot,” 💨
but it’s nothing like the true pungent spray.
They’re still adorable!
